FAQ
What is counselling?
Counselling is not about giving advice on what to do but being non-judgmental, accepting and helping the emotionally weak to enhance their strengths overcome their weaknesses and rationally handle challenging situations.
What kind of issues can I discuss with a counsellor?
You can discuss anything that is troubling you. Here are a few of the situations counsellors commonly deal with:
  • Work
  • Relationships
  • Bereavement
  • Parenting
  • Personal Inadequacy
  • Fear
  • Jealousy
  • Insecurity
  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Unhappiness
Some clients would have undergone traumatic experiences, either in their childhood or in their adult life. They come to counsellors when they want to discuss these experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
How will I be counselled?
Counselling sessions are normally an hour long and held at weekly intervals. But if a client is in crisis the sessions may be more frequent. All sessions are confidential and they will continue until the client feels confident handling issues by themselves without external support and the counsellor has achieved total satisfaction over clients’ behavioural and emotional pattern.
If my problem concerns a relationship, must my partner also be willing to seek help?

Will I ever be advised by counsellors to separate or divorce?
No. Counsellors seek to help strengthen any relationship with rational thought, probing the root cause of the problem and to support the clients in any way possible towards a strong lasting bond.
Counselling will provide positive support during what is said to be the most painful period of a couples’ life.
How successful can counselling be?
Success needs defining. Counselling is a collaborative process undertaken by both client and counsellor. Several unhurried, objective but sympathetic sessions can help a client clarify issues and give some insight.
At the other end of the spectrum, long term counselling can gradually but radically help a person to cope. Clients can be helped to improve their ability to deal with life, work, personal or interpersonal issues for the future.
